Royal Docks
Just think, what a great Cruise Ship terminal the Royal Docks would have made (still can?) and the icing on the cake would have been the Olympics.

Certainly the latest 3 Queens would be able to pass through the barrier at high tide. The biggest gates are 61.5 metres wide and there is a maximum of 15 metre depth. Not sure whether or not they could access the Royal Docks though as they are probably well silted up at the entrance, but could be wrong.

Most of the cruise ships have a draugt of between 7.5 and 8.5 metres so they may well be able to get to the Royal.

On beam alone that would prevent the majority of cruise ships from entering. Depth no problem but length in most cases would be as many are well over the 830 feet length.

Royal docks
If London was really interested the locks could be enlarged, but i have not heard of any proposals for Cruise Ships to Dock there. its a good idea, suppose it would depend on cost of alterations.

Maybe China could pay for any alterations to the locks, they have made Millions out of OUR Olympic Games.
Maybe Cameron could have a quiet word with the Boss Chinaman.
Brian. ..... wondering how giving all our Olympic trade to China will boost British Industry and find thousands of Jobs here.
