    Default What a master!

    Hi ALL
Received this from Dave Williams Today, and thought it well wort posting!
What a master at his craft!
    Thanks Dave
    Cheers

    WORTH A WATCH !!

    CHESS PIECES
Just imagine him on a real lathe!
I did find this fascinating, watching an artisan at work
I Hope you find this fascinating - a craft that was probably handed down by all his grandpapys over the last couple of thousand years?
    Not a bandaid in sight!
Any old timer lathe operators out there?
Obviously no Occupational Health and safety worries wherever this is done! And look at the size of the chisel - no little tiny ones for the delicate bits. AND he appears to still have all his fingers and toes! Talk about dexterity, hand/foot co-ordination, etc. Wow.

Just a guy making chess pieces. [VIDEO]

Well worth watching, I lived in Karachi for nearly four years back in the 70's, give these guys a picture from a book, be it furniture or a dress and it was made for you exactly as shown. During my tenure there, there were still 1914 solid tyre trucks running around, still going strong and carrying incredible loads. Anything that broke, be it piston, bearing, spring etc, take it to one of the street boys and they would have it made in a couple of days. Had a couple of old ships under my wing, original spares impossible to find, kept them going with the back street boys crafts, and these guys could not read or write, but Artisans they certainly were.

Thanks for bringing back the memories (regretfully not all good!)

If I tried that I'm sure I'd finish up missing a few fingers and toes.
