This year's Anzac Day falls on Saturday 25th April with dawn services and civic services being held around our country and Australia on this day.
The following video 'Spirit of Anzac' is a timely reminder of what it's all about.....enjoy

Re: ANZAC Day
In 2013 we had an unusually moving ceremony here, attended by the crew of a visiting US warship. The Australian War Cemetery in Lae is the most beautiful place in town, and I have been the War Graves' official maintenance contractor for quite a few years. There is a detachment of Oz Army men stationed with the PNGDF at Igham Barracks here. They organise the ceremony every year. Last year they placed their portable loo right in the middle of the area between main gate and the Memorial Hall to the Missing. I politely asked them to move it behind the hedge at the guardroom! Every year we have a local PNG man playing the bagpipes at the ceremony. Actually I'm quite proud of 'my' cemetery. We are right now about to start the twice-yearly clean down of the main buildings and Cross of Sacrifice.

Re: ANZAC Day
It will be a very big day here and in NZ. But I often wonder if the public know the truth about it all. There is little of it taught in school history and there have been so many poor versions of the truth in television and movies.
All we can do is tell the truth abut the dead and all of those who went to Galippoli did so in good faith in defence of the nation.

Happy daze John in Oz.

#7...My son David was stationed at Butterworth with them in 1986(?) as security for the RAAF. I still have a photo of him there with his LMG - I was living in Perak at the time.
