Re: Those drunken nights
In Monties in Sydney one night we bumped into a German crew who'd been following us around the coast, one lad got a bit leary from our crowd and the place erupted, we had all been drinking since docking at morning smoko. Met them again in the mission at new years and had a more civilised evening.

Re: Those drunken nights
Monties in Sydney was not a pub.
It was an establishment that yes sold beer, but also had so many others services to offer.
Walk along the alley to the toilet and see some of the varieties on offer, would you like me or her, then see some exhibition f what they could do.
Need to sleep, plenty of room somewhere in a corner, many spent a long night in such a spot.
The ladies all had something to offer, and the ships doc could tell you what it was.
You want a smoke, what kind, we have so many different types of 'weed' on offer here.
Monties was one place that seen would never ever be erased from your memory.

Re: Those drunken nights
And there were you John young and innocent going down there to the latrines with a chicken hung over one shoulder and a mackerel over the other , puffing away on a ships export woodbine. Those were the days my friend I thought they’d never end ? Cheers JS.

But Monties still exists I am told.
Sadly been cleaned up, lost it's image.

I went past in the late 90s, couldn't recognise the area. Think we were one of the last reefers in there!

Re: Those drunken nights
But those drunken nights, without them we may never have had some of the experiences we did.
But were we drunk, or was it just a state of comatose existence for a period of time in which the body portrayed different characteristics of which we were at the time not aware?
Vertical challenges occurred at some regular intervals when fresh air out side did not reciprocate the warmth and empathy of the pub interior.
But in hindsight the kerbs were never a suitable replacement for a feather pillow.

Re: Those drunken nights
Today with the president of the USA looking for new states to add to the Stars and Stripes , maybe the state of Comatose might be suitable to replace Greenland or Canada ? JS.

Re: Those drunken nights
Those drunken nights, oh! yes indeed. I was on the Shell Tanker "ZENATIA" IN 1960 and we were destined for Geelong but two days before we got there we were diverted to Singapore. As expected we couldn't wait to get a decent meal and drink and I believe I made a pig of myself, not that I can remember much but in the morning when I woke I found a large imitation crocodile skin suitcase on the deck. I asked who the new lad was and what cabin he'd be in and I was told, there's no new lad it's yours. I apparently bought it in my drunken state and on arrival at Thames Haven I decided I'd use it and make light work of my other case. When I picked it up I only had the handle in my hand. How could I forget that.

Re: Those drunken nights
Been away for a few weeks now - laptop in drydock for a new cooling system.
Drunken nights ? , i must shamefuly admit paying off night as 2nd.mate after reliefs came on board Rotterdam
Botlek grain berth . We ( I wasn't the only one ) made a complete fool of ourselves . Only mitigating point - it
was after a 10 month trip.
