Re: The Police State ?
Regardless of whether he was a good guy or a bad guy,
why do they always smash store windows, rob or Loot the stores and burn down the stores and shops and people`s homes, turn over people`s cars and burn them??
Today a lot of people including black people have now got no jobs to go to. thanks to the stupid Rioters.
Actions such as this do not help any problems the population may have.

Brian, They see themselves as oppressed and surplus to requirement i am afraid the looting etc... was inevitable and lets not forget this has now gone global, Black lives matter you wouldn't have many competitive sports without them and you more than any of us are only to aware of the different black nationals that gave the ultimate sacrifice and a lot of them in our very own Merchant Navy. The world has never seen change like we are seeing at present with this terrible pandemic amongst other things its time we treated everyone from the same melting pot as brothers and sisters we as much as them have to start showing respect and living in harmony. “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”

Re: The Police State ?
I have two very good friends who live facing my house, they are from Uganda, and as dark skinned as Floyd, He is a hard worker, came here with Nothing and created a big business with Hard work.
I built him a wall for free, when he moved in, they have been doing shopping for us during lockdown, they come to my Birthday parties, we help each other. and are good friends.
Now if he was smashing shop windows and robbing the stock, burning down peoples property , I would NOT be his friend,
That is the difference, Not his colour , but his behaviour.
Respect has to be earned. I have No respect at all for those rioters.

Re: The Police State ?
In 2013 a known gangster was shot and killed in Tottenham north London, Mark Duggan was under police surveillance andwas known to
posses a gun, when the plain clothed police surveillance team stopped his car the nearest officer saw a movement and feared for his life,
when the car was searched no weapon was found but the gun was found in grass nearby. As the word spread so the protest started a it
seems Duggan was seen as a hero in the eyes of certain residents, very soon the mobs formed and protest started, in my opinion the media
coverage inflamed the situation, the number of protesters grew rapidly and by the evening Arson and looting had started, police cars and a
double deck bus was was destroyed, firemen were stoned as they fought the flames of a furniture shop that had been in the same family since
the early 1900s. I've known Tottenham since I was a kid, I've played there worked there and socialised there, the people I knew in those years
would never have have reacted in such a way over the death of a gangster. I beleive today's society has elements of anarchism that has been
bred in our Universities by left wing teachers, many of the so called protesters have the mentality of sheep and will just and will just jump on
any bandwagon that's going, today's news reports that thousands of people have joined the George Floyd protest despite the ongoing Pandemic,
for me that says it all, and now our police are doing the same as the the Americans by "taking a knee", personally I think that is a bad mistake
and highlights just how much we have become under the thumb of the politically correct brigade
. Going back to the thread title, I know
this was not meant when JS wrote it, but whenever I see the term "Police State" I think of Hittler's Germany when he was Chancellor 1934-39
before he became Fhurer, ie Nazism and Dictatorship As, that's what police state means to me. As for the murder off the American man who was in custody and offered no threat to the public, that was a cowardly murder committed in public by a policeman, and I hope he gets the sentence that
he deserves, but I do not see why people in this country are protesting, just my view, cheers

It is only a Police State, when the Protestor, Rioters and Looters don't get their own way.

I remember the young bloke that died when he was speared on a fence because the police were chasing him, if he had been white, there would have been an inquiry, once it was shown it wasn't the fault of the police that would have been that. But now with this black lives matter it's brought up again. What happened in the States was in my book pure evil, but if you look at the picture overall; black people in the States can achieve high office if they try, one was the President. There are poorly treated people in every country in every system, all we can do is try to make things better.

Hi Des, my thoughts are the same about the Aboriginal people and their treatment, my first trip in 1955 was to NZ, I loved the country and
it's people, with their easy going attitude to life, I met a lovely Maori girl name of Josephine and when we sailed for home she gave me a
greenstone Tiki, she got me interested in the Maori culture and she could sing their songs beautifully, my next trip was to Aus and after NZ
it was so different. I never once saw any sign of racism in NZ, as far as I can remember everyone was treated the same we went to a
couple of parties hosted by our Maori friends that we'd made, but in Aus it was different, when we were in Townsville there was a bit of
commotion with some blokes ordering a couple of Abbo's out of town before they'd even got into town, I thought t that was disgusting, and
gave me an ever lastng impression of Aus. I think the Aboriginals of Aus have a far stronger case than those protesters in the UK, cheers.

I see that once again Winston Churchill's statue was vandalised, standing in front of the statue and holding a placard was a youth of about 20
he had a mask on so hard to say, my question is, what would he know about Churchill that he hadn't been told, "maybe in a university"?,
in yesterday's news, soldiers of the Household Cavalry were being abused by these protesrers whilst they were cleaning paint up on a
vandalised War Memorial in Whitehall, all that we hold dear means nothing to these stupid yobs that would not even be here if it were
not for those who laid down their lives, I really do think they're brainwashed ordrugged out of their senses, it's all a bit sinister to me, cheers.

Re: The Police State ?
John, the latter, I would think.
See the Protestor are throwing bottles etc at the mounted Police and throwing bicycles at the Police horses.
