You don't have to go back 500,000 years mate not to cut the lawn, our once green lawn is no more, like all the lawns here, all dead grass or dirt.
Police yesterday picked up a man driving a caravan for throwing a lit cigarette on to the grass verge, opposite the fire shown, he said i didn't think, that's the trouble with people today, they don't think. fined $1,300, should have been made to help fight the fires.

Terry, the time line I have put may not be exact but the scientific fact is that Greenland was at one time Green land, nothing to do with Vikings and their tales. They came much later.

But today the PM spoke about the hysteria the current bush fires are causing with the younger generation and Extinction lot blaming the current gov for them.

Fact is most of the younger generation are not old enough to have seen such events before, Australia is one of the worlds hot spots when it comes to bush fires.
The land expanses here are vast, to such an extent that many cannot comprehend and even though the fires are covering vast tracts of land, much of it inhospitable, it only takes about 2% of the total land mass.

The problem we have is that there are those, who for their own political gain , will use any excuse to blame the fires on someone else.

Most of the fires began with lightning strikes, a few by fire bugs, but bush fire create their own wind which drives the fire on.
Exploding Gum trees send burning embers for kilometers ahead causing more fires. The fact some land owners are not allowed to reduce fuel load but clearing undergrowth, care of Green loaded councils, make it worse.

Drought is a natural part of life here, has always been and no what man does that will not change.

The Aboriginals burned land long before white man came, fires that they had no control over, fires that burned for months and cleared far great amounts than currently are.

On the BBC news one night this week David Shukman highlighted the fact that Greenland Glaciers were melting at an alarming rate.
Now, I admit I do not know the length of Greenlands coast but it must be many thousands of miles.
Standing in front of a map of Greenland Shukman highlighted the places where the Glaciers were melting, there were three or four red spots where the Glaciers were melting.
In my estimate less than one per cent of the total land mass and glacier mass of the
country were under threat.
No wonder there are sceptics

It showed it on TV , Glaciers breaking off, Glaciers break off due to the weight of the ice behind pushing it down hill then over the sea, nothing to support it so it breaks, Not Rocket science but dummies who have never seen it cannot understand. I have watched it many times on my trips to the Arctic and Antarctic,
It was filed at the end of Summer, 24 hours a day sunshine.
that can melt any ice.
Why do they Never film it in January????????

This is interesting, using ships log books from the 19th century they are building up a record of the weather patterns over the centuries.

The Vikings arrived in Greenland at the end of the 10th century. They were led by Erik Thorvaldsson (c.950-1003), known as Erik the Red because of his red hair. Erik first sailed to Greenland about 982 and he like what he saw. Erik the Red is said to have given the country its name 'Greenland' hoping it would attract settlers. At any rate around 985 Erik led the first Viking settlers to Greenland. He set out with a fleet of 25 ships but only 14 of them made it.

Now Lads this is in no way an argued reply but just an addition to this Climate Change Subject. My Feelings now and why is all this so??

I feel that there is now a definate Climate Change all over the World, there is so much happening (I know lots of this has happened before) on a greater scale than ever.

Taking just one example here in Australia,with all the change in Weather patterns ,no Rain,Dams at record low levels,Water Restrictions at a level hardly ever seen before.
Fires Burning and so many out of Control,Winds Howling along to fan these great Fires,Thousands upon thousands of Hectacres being burned away,Crops and Cattle being destroyed,Homes being lost,Lives being lost and Oh so much water ( Something we cannot afford t waste like this) having to be used to try and keep this Land in one Piece.
Temps in places like where i live and most all other Suburbs going up and up each Year, we here in Blackheat have never seen such high Temps ,with days climbing to the 37 degree mark, Next Weel the are forecasting even hotter here at some 40 degrees! This is really over the Top!
So that my opinion now of the Weather and all this on Climate Change, and i feel it is now time for all the Big Brass to wake up and try and do something about it,or i fear our World will just Crumble and Die!
End of my Thoughts ! But really it is damn awful .

I agree with you Vernon, where do we go for a real Honest opinion ???, there is so much conflicting reports from so called experts. I like you, know in my part of the world, very mild compared to you, but we have not seen snow in any amount for some years, 40 years ago we all had a significant falls every year. I am just a human being with little info that i can trust, and with conflicting evidence, all is breeds is mistrust, kt

As I said before a survey carried out by a major paper found that here in N.S.W. no Greens dominated council stopped back burning. I don't like the Greens and I would rubbish them for many things, but not denigrate them for that.
Now the fact that Volunteer Bush fire fighters are no longer being paid by their employers, as they have been fighting fires for over two months, our intrepid PM has said the govt wont be paying them. Now that is someone I would certainly call an Arsehole.
