The Bitter Lakes 1967-69
still have my membership card and my Water Babies tie. Fell of the bridge of the American freighter whilst fully intoxicated, great amusement for all concerned. The polish ship had a doctor on board, on one occasion he had to attend to my infected big toe. The only anaesthetic available was a bottle of Russian vodka, I had to drink half of it neat!!. My last ship before sitting my seconds ticket was the old Empire Star, what a fine old lady.

Re: The Bitter Lakes 1967-69
Hi Gerald, thank you very much for posting your anecdote. I do have an anecdote about a visit to the Polish doctor in my book, Stranded in the Suez Canal, and a section about what a valuable service the doctors provided to the community in the Great Bitter Lake.
