Key Of The Door.
Remember it well, Sailed out of L,Pool on the 16th March on a Harrison boat , My birthday was the 17th March as a crew were weren't that familiar so i said nothing. On the 18th the skipper had been through the books and unknown to me had informed cookie and the rest of the crew, That night after the crews mess had been cleared away i was sent for by the mate meet him in the mess room was the message i got. There was a bloody big birthday cake and a few cases of tenants awaiting me. Skipper entered and asked me why i hadn't said anything its a special birthday lad get yourself pissed you're stood down until tomorrow. Had a bloody ball and what an icebreaker that turned out for a crew that had not sailed together before. Happy days lads Terry.

On my 21st Birthday I was in Rotterdam onboard the CEC Cardigan which only a few hours after arriving had been pulled out of class by the Bureau Veritas Surveyor because of some cracks in the crane.
I'd joined some two months early in Singapore, sailed to Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Cape Town, Congo, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, France and into the Netherlands. Quite an epic start to the trip with some great runs ashore. The rest of the trip involved the Middle East, Iran and India before finishing up in Singapore again.
