I am now an Official Old Fart
why you may ask.
Well last week I had to go to B and Q to buy a new lawn mower and as they did not have the model I wanted in stock they had to order it in for me.
As the lady assistant was filling in the order details, unasked she said did I want the pensioners card that gave me a 10% discount on all purchases (it can only be used on a Wednesday though).
Well greed got the better of me so I said yes and immediately got my 10% discount plus my membership card.
On walking out of the store it suddenly struck me that how the heck did she know that my age qualified me for the card as it as only when she was filling in the card details did she ask for my date of birth, having already granted me the pensioners discount.
This is really troubling me as every morning when I look in the shaving mirror I see the same smiling face that I have always had since I was a callow youth of 14 when the need to shave first sprouted on that face. Even her indoors and daughters say I don't look a day over (silence).
So how did this lady assistant whom I have never before seen in my life recognise that I was of an age that would qualify me for the pensioners discount?
Its beginning to trouble me, do I look old? not according to the face in the mirror or my (new) passport photo.
So yes I must now be officially an OLD FART for worrying over such trivial matters.

Welcome to the OOF club John.
I too go to B&Q, and get 10% off the money I spent.
So sometimes it pays to be an OOF.
AND I also have a mirror that shows a very handsome 26 years old lad, all lean, mean, bronzed with sunbleached wavy hair.
Then I take my Blood Pressure Tablets, my Vitamin B12, Zinc, and Omega 3 Cod liver Oil capsules, and a spoon of Gaviscon after breakfast, before making an appointment at the Doctors.
At least, I have been there. sad part is, there is no going back.

Welcome aboard John, the first time I realised I was a full member of the Club some time ago when a young middle aged lady got up to give me her seat on the bus. It has happened a few times, even in today's embargo on courtesy. But I gracefully decline and stand stoically hanging on to anything bolted to the floor. Except on one embarrassing occasion!!

As a 16 year old with some 55 years experience I can understannd how you feel. Here in Oz e get all manner of discounts and frebees of which I take the opportunity to use when ever I can. Get a video from the store and get a weekly for free, 10% discount in the local paint shop anfd we have the 'seniors' card, must be Spanish with a name like that, which gives us discount in 100's of places. Also with our RACV (AA) we get a number of discounts on some hols.
In the morning I look in the mirror and tell the guy there that if he plays his cards right he too can look like me in time.

I got my first pensioners discount 20 yrs ago at the Earls Court boat show.I was quite proud when I was asked to prove my age.Got married (again) at 61 but it was only recently that I realised I really was an old fart.
Went to the vets with the wife and dog(treatment was for the dog) and in the waiting room was a rather shapely young lady with her alsation.
After she left I commented to the lady vet that I must be getting old as I admired the dog rather than the young lady,s chest
