I have just watched the film,
I do not have sound on my computer since it fell in a heap last year. so just watch in silence.
    .
Now half way through the film appears Detective Inspector Balmer of the Liverpool Police.
    This guy beat me up.
In March 1949 there was a double murder in the Cameo Cinema in Liverpool. Two Managers were shot dead in their office.
I was baby sitting my younger brother, he of the ex Master Marine, ex Master Brewer, of Knowsley fame.
I was nearly 15 years old , he was 5. Parents had gone to the cinema.
The front door was suddenly smashed down and the house was full of men running around, some upstairs, some downstairs, Balmer had me by the throat against the wall and slapping my face with his brown leather gloved hand.
"Where is he" he kept shouting. I thought they were a gang of burglars at first. all plain clothes.
    `Who`?
"You know who, Jim Aspinall, we want him for murder." It was my eldest brother. he had sailed on the Vancouver City bound for Japan. "No he is not, he is missing from his ship"
I was scared now, they waited around for my parents to come back and took them to the Station and questioned them all night until the next morning.
Two weeks later we had a letter from Suez, Mother took it to the Station and showed them . They just said Its OK we have a man in custody for the murders.. The berstereds didnt have the decency to inform Mother. She had never been to bed for two weeks, just waiting.
It is all in the Book by George Skelly, `The Cameo Conspiracy`
A man confessed to the killings and was aquited, two other men were picked up and one was executed by hanging and the other got ten years in Wakefield Gaol.
Years later I met and became friends with Charles Connolly who did his ten years, he always said he was innocent. and I introduced him to George Skelly the author. who then wrote the book with Charles` help.
With a Liverpool Business man, Lou Santangelli, who belived in Charles, we campaigned and finally got the appeal in the Appeal Court in London. They were both cleared of the Murders, Unfortunately, George Kelly had been hung and Charles had dropped dead in Asda supermarket in Norris Green in Liverpool shortly before the verdict that proved their innocence.
So that view of the Detective Balmer brought it all back.
Just one of my many adventures.
    Cheers
    Brian.

Brian not having no sound is not the end with that clip as there is a button on the bottom of the link that Vernon has which puts it into close captions so that you can actually read what is being said. As we know some of the accents are very broad so helps to translate scouse to english. Ducking for cover as I type.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

    Hi Less, thanks for that.
the problem is... last year my computer crashed , I took it to the shop and he fitted a new hard drive, but could not recover everything.
    Not had sound since,
My grandson who is a computer geek at 13, says I have no sound card. so I still dont know what to do.
I do use the captions underneath but it is all double Dutch to me,
.................[ can I say that without being accused of being a Rascist?]
I bought a new computer, Windows 7 , But I cannot get any progs on it, too complicated for this old mind of mine. so have gone back to my old one and still struggle with it. the new one is just gathering dust.
    Cheers
    Brian.

Interesting that RLT even if I had to turn my monitor on its side to read it.

Brian find out if the hard drive is compatable with your new computer and if so then install it as a second hard drive and that way everything on it is available again. I purchased a new hard drive quiet a while back and installed it putting windows and everything on it. My logic is that so long as I keep the second HDD up to date and not connected once done I hopefully can use it if ever I get a virus in this HDD. All one has to do is to plug the second one in to access it for updating it as it does not interfere with the main one. Also means that I have removed the side of the computer for access but also allows me to remove all the dust that gets into it. How many on site do not realise that it is the dust that can give you grief. Maybe this is a lot of crap for some but I am finding it works for this dedicated luddite. As always have said? No fecking good being stupid unless one shows it.
That's the way the mop flops.

My thanks to Brian for this site.

No sound card no sound, but at one time your computer must have had one.

Ivan. I know your only Joking. But reading the history of Dockers, would reveal that there practices of casual working was a thorn in the side.Working the "Welt" suited MDHB because it kept the men happy, but no week was the same when they had to go in to a pen and get hired for the day.Sufice to say if your face fitted you could get hired more often. The late Jack Jones (TGWU) ex Liverpool Docker would try as best to improve there lot.
