Hi JAE, as ex seamen we all manage to get afloat in our civvy job, in Hampshire Fire service when i was over there we had Fireboat 39, which was very shallo0w draft, and designed for the Solent, however when the Pacific glory was on fire in the chanel, she was sent to fight the fire, she got as far as the needles, nearly turned over and returned to base, KT ps iwas not on her at the time

had an uncle in the river police ......ex mn navigater.......war came ....went right through navigating lancasters ........big guy well liked but took no crap ......apart from taking drunken seamen of ships he spent most of his time pulling bodies out the tyne.....known in the family as the body snatcher.......my auntie sed she could tell when hed pulled one out he stunk and coudnt get it off.....retired superintendant river tyne police .....some tales i couldnt tell on here but scary ........seamen could be a handfull when in drink
