Ye gods crabs, who was told that what we thought was a myth that if you sprayed insect spray there right around the whole, ha ha area you would be Ok? Well I as with more than one or two others did, talk about sting as well as burn but it sure worked. You remember those old tin pump sprays with wooden handle? Sure was hard to do the job & one handed too after priming the spray then rushing it to the area with the repellent squirting out all over the place (: In hindsight it is amazing we are alive after some of the encounters we had how we did not get atomic drop I do not know.

Those were the days.
As a youngster of about 6 years in the early 1940's meat was getting hard to get and not much to choose from. Then some bright spark in the street who had access to some very young geese ( I think he had relatives in the countryside outside of town) thought it a good idea if everyone in the street bought one and fatten it for Xmas. So we finished up with about 15 to 20 of these birds, they were fed on table scraps and had the freedom of the street, in fact they used to play with us kids - soccer, knock and run, all the kids games. They were part of the family. As Xmas approached the question rose as to who would dispatch these birds and dress them for the table -- there was not a single volunteer and every family said that they could just not bring themselves to eat their pet goose anyway ! So, they were sold to a local butcher and every one had chicken instead ! Regards Peter in Auckland NZ.
