    Default Jury Service

I am the last person you would expect to be on a Jury but I have just received another bloody Jury summons this after serving on one at the "Old Bailey" only 8 years ago.
I know it's your civic duty etc etc, but some people have not been summoned once let alone twice.
There has to be something wrong somewhere with the system they use to choose jurors.

I have done that Graham, in Manchester Crown Court, I found it very entertaining.
In fact I was threatened by the Judge for Contempt of Court.
A QC was on his feet and he gave such a wonderfull speech, I got carried away with the moment, It was like watching Shakespear in a theatre, he was fantstic, As he finished speaking I started to clap, and suddenly froze when I realised where I was, The Judge looked at me sternly and said Any more of that I will hold you in Contempt, [ you can go to gaol for that,] I appologised to the Court. I got away with it.
The case involved Ice Cream men and their vans fighting for a long time over whos patch it was. So they got shot guns and started blasting each other.

    Default Jury Service.

Hi Brian. Received a summons for jury service from Taunton Court officials. Wrote and told them I was over 70 and they wrote back and apologised for disturbing my hibernation. Told me I was no longer required can I sue for ageism?
Last served on a jury in Cardiff back in the 70's and there seemed to be a general concensus that the bloke on charge was innocent. He was a commis chef charged with trying to set fire to the hotel he worked in. I remember the Judge never thanked the jury so obviously was upset with the verdict. Maybe that's why they waited to invite me again when I was too bloody old!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Michael, here are the requirements for jury service,............
    .
    .
    .hat a jury does
You can't volunteer to do jury service
A jury decides whether someone is innocent or guilty of committing a serious crime - like murder, rape, burglary or fraud.

You may be asked to be on a jury at a civil trial - like a personal injury case.

A jury is made up of 12 members of the public, randomly selected using the electoral registers.

Once confirmed, you must arrive for jury service or you could be fined up to £1,000.

Registering to vote (government, citizens and rights section)Who can be selected for jury service
You may be asked to do jury service if you:

•are at least 18 years old and under 70 years old (at the time your jury service starts)
•are listed on the electoral register
•have lived in the UK for any period of at least five years since you were 13 years old

    .
So I am out of it now at near 77 tho` I did enjoy doing it at the time about 30 years ago,
    Cheers Brian

    Hi Graham,

Whilst the truth of the matter may be the complete opposite, should you lack enthusiasm for another bout of jury duty ( and time allows) you might give thought to writing a letter to the person responsible for the issue of the summons wording it as follows (or something similar) ...........

    Dear Sir or Madam,

Whilst it gives me no pleasure writing to you in this fashion, I believe I have a duty to inform you that I retain a certain bias against persons of non-British ethnicity or culture and, for obvious reasons, consider myself a person totally unsuited to perform jury service.

    Yours sincerely,

Although I write this with tongue in cheek, mate, and as unethical as it may seem, here in Oz I know of several occasions when letters such as this have achieved the desired result.

    ...................Roger

I have never served on a Jury, nor has my dear wife. Why, well it could be that after leaving B&C, I did 2 years as a policeman in Hampshire Constabulary, maybe they think I would be predudice, but which way? My wife served in the RN as a QARNS sister, so that may stop her from being asked. Or it could be that I`m on a sedctet list from MI5, or that I cant spell?

We have never been summoned for Jury service. I wonder if my wife is still eligible being disabled?? As for myself I think that Rogers idea in post #7 is excellent.
