Hi everyone out there
I sailed on a H class boat as junior Engineer in 1969. I joined in Singapore and the boat was on the Vietnam run. I can remember being off the Vietnam coast in July when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon. My discharge book shows no record for the year 1969 just a blank line with the note "Ineffective 12 months rule date 4 12 69 16 oa IR". Any help on what that means. After a spell on the Vietnam coast we loaded a cargo for India but passing though the Mallaca straits we blacked out at around 00.30hrs and because no one had opened the lube oil gravity tank valve there was no oil to the turbine bearings as we slowed down. So when we got power back we found that we had run the main bearings on the turbine so had to be towed back to Singapore for repairs. I can't remember the name of the H boat so if there is anyone out there that can recall the name I would be grateful. I have a feeling that it might be Hadra but not sure.
