Had 5 months on the 320 k tonner L boat Lepeta in 1984, 2 trips out of the gulf, one to singapore the 2nd through the suez and med to Le Havre, during the Iran/Iraq war, then a couple of north sea runs from the brent spa and fulmar fields to shell haven and teesport on the 180 K tonner Northia and the 72 k tonner Serenia. came ashore in 86 as didn't want to go back coasting or north sea oil fields, not many deep sea trips left , shame i seem to have got into the job as it came to an end..

Likewise only on one , Hinnities , full crew from the pool , by coach to Manchester, brought her down the canal to Eastham , ( strange how things turn out, but I can almost see the dock from my house) ,.
must admit did,nt like it , not being able, for obvious reasons , to smoke on deck .

my last 2 trips to sea were the Serenia and the Northia, went to the Spa on both of them, also the Fulmar FSU. Not what I joined the MN for, north sea and coasting, wanted deep sea but I think I got into the industry as it wound down to a close, or so it seemed at the time. Dont regret coming ashore but miss it, must be the reason I enjoy long haul holidays abroad, the med never seemed to cut it for me. Wish I had been old enough to sail on general cargo ships to the far east and west coast of the states etc, 12 and 18 month trips...
