Good to hear about the MV Medic. I was 3rd Engineer on her for a number of voyages having stood by her in Swan Hunters during building. She was the fastest ship l ever sailed on and having a " sal log" in the engine room my hobby was to fine tune the main engines engines without informing the bridge. Surprised the 2nd mate a few times when he realised how fast we were going!

I came home on Medic following release from Mt. Eden after jumping from Suevic in Auckland.
Arrived in Liverpool in a snow storm wearing a short sleeved shirt, cotton trousers and suede shoes, the clothes I had been wearing when picked up.

After missing the ship in Santos.
Arrived back in London schooner rigged in the middle of December. Got some strange looks walking around in a torn short sleeve shirt.

Dennis I had a similar short experience , paid off a ship in Durban in March , flew up to Joburg going home and had to change flights there . Due to luggage weight limits had to carry or wear a heavy top coat as hand luggage. Getting off the flight in Johannasburg had to walk halfway across the runways to the terminal accompanied by many catcalls from sightseers dressed in shorts and T shirts from the airport roof at me sweating like a pig with a great topcoat on struggling with all the hand luggage. A guy by the name of David Dane, last seen in Canberra, came out as a ten pound Pom after some years at sea.
It was December when he left UK so bought a big fur coat.
He told me he felt a right prat walking down the gangway in Freemantle with the temp at about 40.

Did the maiden voyage on the Zealandic back in March 65. Bus trip from London to Greenock bus driver lost us in the highlands of Greenock in a snow storm. Out to Hobart doing 21knts across the Bight with a following sea until the old man came on the bridge blew a gasket dropped the revs we did nothing but poop the seas after that Lol.
