New fleet support ships
The new support ships could be built by a joint British and Spanish team using Belfast's Harland and Wolff's yard for assembly.

Re: New fleet support ships
John, I understand from friends in Oz that the Spanish naval ships supplied to them have been a constant source of trouble operationally, but they do look nice!
Surely if we can build two complicated aircraft carriers then we must have the expertise in-house to build support vessels.
The French Govt has ordered 24 naval ships this year from French yards without offering an EEC tender, the Spanish are building warships for their own fleet again without tendering within the EEC, both citing security reasons.
What is wrong with our political masters, have they no gumption.

Re: New fleet support ships
Ivan, I agree, we should build our own. They do not classify fleet support as warships, that's why they go out to tender.
Should build all our own ships.

Re: New fleet support ships
Quite agree Vic, but in these times of envisaged high unemployment then everything possible should be done to keep industry in-house.

Re: New fleet support ships
Ivan #2, correct we had two from Spain, came is as a basic ship to be completed withy fit out here.
The problems from what my brother tells me, he does a lot of electrical work for BAE, they ae the company that did the fit out.
Many of the parts fitted in Spain were not fully compatable with what we use here.
They were eventually fitted out but still not 100% .

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.
