Re: Cammell Laird Bid for Newbuild Warships.
Jim, interesting report. A report produced and issued by the government before the type 26 and 31 orders are issued, stated that all orders should spread over the remaining capable shipyards. Ie all shipyards should get a share not just Bae.
Hopefully all yards will share in the orders.

I agree with you Vic the work should be spread around the country where there is a shortage of work, many apprentice's should be taken on and British Steel used 100%.

Lets hope that the Government sees common sense for once and awards the contracts to UK yards, it will be a fantastic boost to our economy. Also to use British Steel instead of it going to Europe.

Re: Cammell Laird Bid for Newbuild Warships.
#4 When the Government ordered 3 fast patrol boats from Bae Govan, some of the steel ordered to construct the came from Sweden. Apparently British Steel, doesn't manufacture the type of steel required. Hopefully this situation has since been corrected.

Tata - British Steel don't roll thick plate . most of the business is strip , car body steel , colour-coat cladding , tinplate and tubes .the A , AH36 , DH36 , EH36 steel for shipbuilding would be manufactured by Dillinger Hutte in the Netherlands from German or French rolling mills , The UK has no capacity . , for the new frigates 35% , 50%n by value of the steel , is British origin supplied by Dent Steel Services i Bradford, all the steel for submarines is French sourced .

Re: Cammell Laird Bid for Newbuild Warships.
Surely with the current Brexit situation there is every chance UK and not EU will get the contracts.
Fincanteri the Italian shipbuilders have put in a bid to build ships here in Oz, not sure what kind but they say if they do they will register on our stock exchange.

Happy daze John in Oz.
