Re: New Carriers
You can't waste all that money on carriers and tanks and things. There wouldn't be enough left to pay for the Government Guest House (used to be known as jails) televisions, free meals for the enemy, and all the other Social needs propounded by social workers justifying their existence. Fact is, if you can't be bothered to pay to defend what you have, sooner or later you will lose it.

Re: New Carriers
Ref. unemployment benefit... I have been 4 times on such. three times when up for certificates where the maxinum was 12 weeks, and once when was made redundant and was on for 10 days approx. which the government wanted back when I found employment. How able people can receive from the cradle to the grave, plus all the foreigners who enter the country beats me, there must have been rapid changes in the system during the past 50 years. As regards the deteriotion of the armed forces with cutbacks etc. I find deplorable and whatever government allows to happen should hang its head in shame, or better still give up trying to govern. With ref to cert. apart from the first one which received no pay, was paid by the company for 3 months as per contract, however still had to claim unemployment benefit and they made up the difference to the wage scale at the time. Some say the poor British shipowner, others tell the truth. They gave nothing away free gratis right up to the bitter end. I stated what I got as redundancy from the BSF for 31 years service 1100 pounds or something, someone else on site said he received the same laughable amount. Nobody answered my query then and still havent, how much the BSF office and shore workers received. The BSF was the shipowners for those unaware, there have been posts on here about sexual harassment and all the bits that go with it. A seaman before females entered the world of shipping would be liable only to receive zilch in the way of accomodation improvements etc. however when the political correctness brigade entered the arena theyfell over themselves trying to show they were not failing in their duties. What a female could demand, a male never could, this may also be a contributing factor why some females were shown this ill feeling by some at sea. I have said before and will always say the same the British shipowner in a lot of cases was the worse in the world for seamens conditions and would give nothing away he didnt have to. What he is going to do when he finds once again cheaper crews is obvious, and those employed at sea at the moment will have to remember that ships are there to make the owners and shareholders money, and their jobs also are likely to disappear in time. JS

Ref to #1... David Cameron will not be around long enough to have any say on what happens to the carriers in the future, and knows he is on safe ground by making such a statement. He is still probably having nightmares about his previous promoses re an open vote on the EU. Cheers John S
