I served on the RFA Wave Knight, my first trip deep sea, to Curacao, and the delights of Happy Valley, I then served on the RFA Wave Ruler during the 1960 Cod War and the Strike of the same year, got a DR for that, I miss my tot and ten bob, a day when we did a RAS. I never thought of being a member of the RN, but when I did come ashore in 1963, I lived very close to Leith Docks and every toot of a ship calling up the tugs made my feet itch, I did then join the RNR, and had 27 years at HMS Scotia in Fife, love the fact that I have served under three ensigns
