Default Still looking for Uncle Harold Jones 7 years on

Born 1921, Wellington, NZ. Went to sea in 1937 possibly Wanganella, Was on Awatea in 1940 [age 20 and 3 yrs at sea} and Queen Mary in 1941 {troopships]. Married 1942 NSW Australia. From there he dropped off the family radar and was never heard of again
Did he jump ship from USSCO NZ to Cunard? What sources are available to find out? I dont have any registration numbers or Seamans union nos to go by and there were a lot of H Jones in crew lists. Im looking particularly in 1950s/1960s.
Any suggestions would be helpful. Many thanks

    Hello Frances
As i have not used this site before, i am not sure as to how one would go about getting any records on Seaman.
However i give this Link as it covers the name in Question. So possibly an Email to them asking the Question may assist!?

Hiya all, Thanks for suggestions. Will give them a go.
I heard Kew also has crew lists for ships requisitioned during war . Is the site very useful or specific?
The possibilities are endless. Again many thanks.
    Fran

Yes the NA at Kew has such Records , and it is a good source for most all British Ships , some Crew Lists and lots of other info, such as Seamans Pouches, CRS10 Cards and more.
Joining the Archives is free online , and a must if you want to do research.

    All the best
    Cheers

Was just looking in case at Medals Listed for the Name of Jones H. But unfortunatly his name is not on any listed at the Archives.
Not saying that he never got any, but looks not likely in any British Force.
The New Zealand Archives may have more when you look at it?
    Cheers

    Re Harold Jones
    Yes. Thats her. Divorced 1951,
Electoral rolls havent offered any seamen if he stayed in Aus. I have an H Jones on Scythia 1951 aged 29. right age ...But?
Also Mauritania ,1951 Southhampton - NY, [he could have been on M during the war}, Queen Elizabeth 1952, Atlantis ,Southhampton - NZ
Chusan, London-Singapore 1953, Willem Ruys, Southhampton- Singapore, Fairsea to Fremantle,1951,
    All likely suspects .
Thanks for continued information , Fran

With him being on some British Ships then Fran, not too sure on this but have you tried looking at the Southampton Archives (Maritime Section) as they hold many Original Records, may be worth an Email to them?

    Cheers

Dont know if you have the Marriage Cert. But if you dont may be there might just be something on it that woud help?

Yes, have the M/ cert but sad,y no further unknown info except that he misrepresented his age, probably not unusual in wartime. From a photo labelled Harold and Peter on a yacht in Sydney Harbour we assume he had 1child, Another photo of Queen Mary in Syd Harbour labelled Harolds ship I have been able to string together a small timeline but then the information peter's out. Again thank you for all your suggestions. Fran

    Hi Fran
Just going back to the few Ships he was on being British, as you say around 1950,s on that info i am sure that he must have a CRS10 Card. The only way to check this is of course again cost involved to the National Archives and order Copy of the Series he would be in. This being as follows..

Jones Granville to Jones Herbert | The National Archives

Again just another avenue that may bring something forth.
    Cheers
