Default Any information on ships between 1957 and 1966

    Good Afternoon

I received my father's pouch which shows a list of ships he was on between 1957 and 1966.

I would love to find out where these ships were bound for and what they were carrying. Also under Rank or Rating, the following abbreviations have been noted - BCS and BRS. Can anyone enlighten me?

Sometimes there was only one day in between leaving one ship and joining another and at other times months elapsed. I am really interested in the life of a Merchant Seaman as unfortunately, I know nothing about my dad's time at sea.

    Himalaya
    Strathaird
    Strathnaver
    Strathmore
    Stirling Castle
    Pendennis Castle
    SA Oranje

Thank you in advance for any help given.

    Happy New Year to all.

    Kevin

BRS (Bedroom Steward) BCS ??? BSC is British Seamans Card (Identity Card) different from his Discharge Book!

Stirling Castle one of my Ships. Carried Passengers from Southampton to Durban and back. Carried Cargo as well, and at times Gold Bars .
Ports were Southampton, Las Palmas, Madeira , Ascension, Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth and Durban and Return.

    Stirling Castle (2) (bandcstaffregister.com)

Pendennis and Oranje similar to the Stirling Castle.

    Publication3 (cachalots.org.uk)

The Himalaya was also passenger Ships my late Uncle was on her. Did trips that i know of from London to Australia but i am sure there were other places!

    Hi Kevin!
I served on the Strathaird 56/57 as a BellBoy. We sailed from Tilbury to Australia. We carried First and Second class paying passengers and a third class of people emigrating to Australia at £10 a head. Their accommodation naturally was basic. We went from Tilbury to Gibralta, Malta, through Suez Canal to Aden, Ceylon,India, Colombo, Fremantle, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney.
