Was J.O.S. on the Port Wellington in 1967, got the boot for going adrift. Lots of companys men on there and this behaviour was tut tutted by most, what the hell it made me go to Shaw sSaville and I was on the Gothic [brilliant] the Corinthic, even brillianter if thats a word, and last but definately the best trip ever the Waipawa. Reached the dizzy heights of e.d.h Which stood for efficient!! daring and handsome. Got sacked off her and then tried Blue star, the Wellington star and the Tasmanian star, real work ups. Lots of coastal jobs as I was in love at the time, then deep sea with Scottish ship management on the Cape Howe, strange days. Back to New Zealand shifting company on the Piako, the Cumberland the Otaki, Devon and Dorset finished up on the best and easiest ship ever the Turakina for two glorious years and lots of pennicillin!!! Sandy.

Hiya Mick,
Frank never mentioned that story
. I saw him a few months ago here in Dover at the service for the Herald of Free Enterprise. He is living in Spain nowadays.

Frankie Franklin.
Will do Mick if I see him. I used the Mogul a lot in the strike as the Union office was just around the corner and we had a few handouts which were given out in the church hall opposite the Mogul.
Frank and Charlie, his wife, female I hasten to add, stayed on for a few more good years but the pub was out of the way really and the trade fell off. It is now the wardens house for the old peoples flats opposite.
Alec..
PS. Sorry to Hi-jack your thread Sandy McClure, that is the way things go on the site.
