Sailing Home
I have heard the whale-fish singing in the frozen Arctic seas
I have heard the palm trees whispering on the Polynesian breeze
But the sweetest sound a sailor hears wherever wild waves pound:
Our journey's almost over boys and we are homeward bound
Homeward bound to wives and sweethearts
Homeward bound an easy run
Where we shall lay our sea chests down
And rest with labour done
I have drunk the rum in Kingston and the beer in Hamburg town
I have drunk with nameless dark-skinned men until the room spun round
But the brew that tastes the sweetest is the one where home is found
Our journey's almost over boys and we are homeward bound
Homeward bound to wives and sweethearts
Homeward bound an easy run
Where we shall lay our sea chests down
And rest with labour done
I have burned in tropic sunshine, I have shivered in the ice
I have done things I am sorry for when fate has rolled the dice
But now my work is ended and the time has come around
Our journey's almost over boys and we are homeward bound
Homeward bound to wives and sweethearts
Homeward bound an easy run
Where we shall lay our sea chests down
And rest with labour done

Re: Sailing Home
Flows in a lovely way that feels like an evening swell. A ballad - well done.
