The pink lights of mcmurdo
THE PINK LIGHTS OF MCMURDO
The first time I ever noticed,
Those lights which flit around.
We stood beside the icy shelf,
In old McMurdo Sound.
It was night time on the ocean,
And all as bright as day.
I was working on the bridge wing,
When I saw them miles away.
I knew not where they came from,
Or what their cause might be.
Six pink lights flew past us,
Across the ice and out to sea.
That was many years ago,
And I've never told a soul,
About the lights I know I saw,
On our voyage to the Pole.
The sea maintains her secrets,
More than enough to go around,
Those six pink lights among them,
Left behind at McMurdo Sound.
