Re: my river tyne
Couldnt pick you out on the fish quay Cappy. Or were you in the Jungle. Pats friend has done well with her presentation. I sailed with one of the Tyne Pilots but cant remember his name too long ago. But the system they had then was they did so long on the Pilot Cutter then went to sea to get the seatime in for second mate , think that time on the cutter went some way towards the seatime. After getting 2 mate they either carried on at sea or went back onto the pilotage , as a full time career. I am related to one of the well known families according to some family tree that my kids done years ago. But it was through marriage. Think but could be wrong it was one of the Taylors. But again is just as likely to be one of the Burns. JS

#4. That’s why most men are very selective when looking for a wife and pass over wee faults like being slightly below par in the intelligence as to themselves Cappy . Who wants to go back to being a serf. I didn’t choose very well as get my 20 lashes every night for not being penitent enough . They aren’t eye lashes either, just eye watering . Cheers JS

Re: my river tyne
Enjoyed that film Cappy, my Granddad was from the tyne, in fact when i did family research i went to the village Tyndale, where as far as i could find is where the family name started out. There is a worked out mine and a few houses there, and it would seem that when the mine ranout, the family shifted to Sunderland to find work. He was a mystery man, married three times, came south and joined the RN as a stoker, and finished in the MN as a stoker, and never went back north, kt

Re: my river tyne
hi cappy #1
good evening, just opened up on line, and read your bit about the tyne. i watched a piece a couple of days ago on youtube about the EPPLETON HALL,the first paddle steam tug built 1900s, it was eventually sailed under its own steam to san franscisco in the 1960s and todate it is part of their marine history, ( yes its a shame that it could not find a home here on the tyne ) anyway i have tried to paste it onto this but had no luck, but i think its worth looking for.
