Medeival Puzzles
A couple of very early puzzles taken from a couple of hundred from an old book.
Should be easy for all of us with 21 century brains.
Three Boatmen...The master of a small marina on St. Marks basin in Venice found himself faced with a particular trying problem. Some equipment had been stolen, and the witnesses all disagreed vehemently with each other. One of the men was telling the truth, but the boat master could not tell which one. Stripped of all the hand-waving and flowery insults, the three boatmen"s claims could be summarized as such. Arrigo " Bensi is lying" Bensi " Cipolla is lying. Cipolla " the other two are both lying". Which one should the boat master trust?
Bucket List.....A carters apprentice stricken with curiosity one lunchtime, had a part filled bucket of water, and then floated a smaller bucket inside the larger, the water level rose, leaving the smaller bucket partly submerged. As he was at it, the carter came past, and paused for a moment. " Do you see lad ? The floating bucket pushes aside enough water to equal its bulk." He wandered off again. The apprentice looked at the buckets doubtfully," But its full of air. How can that be true"? JS
