Oh to be in England,
The Gudgeon
Sun dappled old Mill, leafy glade,
Quieted now with evening shade
In proffer’d: English quilted play,
Of gentle moments on display;
Dawdling; sleekit shimmering shape;
Grey cloak’d about her scaly nape,
Loiters and pokes with nudging need,
Antennae whiskers trolling weed,
Raw kneed and elbow’d over stream,
Blue wondering eyes reflects the gleam
Of waters set with sun’s last ray,
He shared the gudgeon’s dwindling day.
