Palm Boys
Nice to see a few old Palm Boys around. I was on the Ibadan Palm first of all as Cadet Engineer in 1967 with old Gunboat Smith as captain. The Bosun was George Mathews who sadly crossd the bar a couple of years ago. Any other old Ibadan Palm boys out there?

Palm Boys
Hi Keith,
I'm an old Ibadan Palm boy, reckon she was the best in the fleet at that time!! I did about 9 trips in total on her, first 1963, last 1966, with a few other Palm boats in between. Eventually swallowed the anchor 1968, with some great memories. Check the photo gallery "people and places" I think. There might be someone there you recognise!!

Russ, I too have some pictures when i can find them of the IP's football team at Sapele after we thrashed them 3 - 1. They did not like it demanded areplay after flying in more reserves and eat us 2-1. they would not let us have any beer so we all jumped into their swimming pool full of muddy boots and made a right mess of the pool. It was magic!!

Palm Boys
Hi Keith,
I never played footie in Sapele (well, not that I remember!!) but I did play for the Ibadan in Freetown. The game was set up by the agent I think, played against a local team at a stadium (of sorts). we were all kitted out, about half of the local lads had boots, the rest played in their bare feet. They literally kicked us off the park!!! I also remember playing against the Cap boats, always ended up back on the Ibadan for a few??? bevvies. Happy days!!!!
Regards Russ
