    Default Ron Clayton

Hi, my father was Ron Clayton, Purser/Catering Officer from1959 to 1984 in Palm Line. He died in 2006 and I am trying to find anyone who may have photos of my father or have details on which ships he served, particularly from December 1968 onwards. I have his last Seaman's Record Book with all the details up to the Badagry Palm in Dec '68. His records are missing from then to '84.

Does anyone have any photos of my father? I would be delighted to hear from anyone who remembers him.

    Roy

    Wink Ron Clayton

    Hello Roy,
Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about Ron. I knew him, sailed with him on the Lagos Palm, April - Sept 1965, a true gentleman, always eager to please, pretty sure that I sailed with him on other Palm Line ships. He was a really nice guy. I have a photograph posted under "Life on Board, Ashore and People", if you go into Gallery and search using the word testing you should find it. It shows a few of us on a lifeboat returning from a "jolly", The guy on the tiller is Captain Kopec, I took the photo, your dad is to the left of him (looking at the photo). You should also try the website "ships nostalgia", in particular try to get in touch with Stan Mayes, not sure if he will have photographs, wouldn't have sailed with your Dad, but he certainly knew him.
    Best Regards
PS If you want a copy of the photo let me have your E-mail address.

    Hi Roy

Your father was the Chief Steward on the Lagos Palm when I joined her in Rotterdam in 1966. A larger than life figure, and a very genuine man whom I liked enormously. I was sad to hear that he had now crossed the bar.

    regards

    Default Big Ron

    Hi Roy

I sailed with your dad on at least two or three trips between 1976 to 1984. I also did a few 'turnarounds' with him on the continent and UK and we always got on very well together and had many a good time. On some of these occasions my wife was accompanying me and she also got to know Ron quite well. He was always a total gent, good fun and fantastic company. Am really so sorry to hear that he crossed the bar. I can still see his smiling, jolly face after all these years.

    Regards
