I wonder how many out there will remember my Father, Bob Owen who was the Technical Director in London Office. After working for Elders, he worked for Palm Line in the Liver Buildings, Liverpool until 1959 when he transferred to the Tilbury Office. I have great memories of my Father taking me to visit various ships both in Liverpool and Tilbury Docks.

It is with much sadness that I write to say that, at the age of 93 years, my Father died on 20 December 2011 after complications following a fall in which he broke his hip. Whilst he had great difficulties with his memory in the last several years, up until a few months before his death he led a quiet but happy life, always looking as if he had just walked out of Austin Reeds! However, he never lost that special affinity for ships and the sea.

Yes the old Tilbury Docks holds many memories for many of us old Buggers here,and it was the First Large Port that i sailed into on a Foggy Morning in 1958 from Cape Town on the old Dunnottar Castle!
I recall rushing up to the Main Deck so as i could see us coming in,well to my dissapoinment all i could see was Fog ! haha! Some Welcome to the UK!
