Working Passage Home
I am looking to work my passage back to the U/K from Melbourne. I have 29 years in Security and 6 years as a Chaplain. When I was last at sea I was a Second Steward (Petty Officer Catering) from 65 to 69. I hope that someone in P & O can help. My elderly mother is still in the u/k and so I wish to spend her last days with her and my Disabled foster brother.

Working passage!
Hi there,
First of all i am sorry to hear about your Mum,and your Disabled Foster Brother,i know it must be difficult for you!
Anyway these days unfortunately there is not a call for things like Working ones passage from one place to the other, although i have heard of a few that have done it in recent times!
As for the Larger Ships like passenger Liners, its almost impossible as the Crew are always full, and now mostly i think of Other Nationalities!
There may be the slightest chance that one Liner may have a Crewman short (wishfull thinking) but that is a big chance!
However if i were you i would think of approaching a Shipping Company that runs Tankers,on these you may have a far better chance of doing this!
Other than that,a Tramper is another option as they just go from any Port to wherever, but you will eventually get to the UK (Well hopefully)
So that is as much as i can tell you at this time!
I really wish you the best of luck in your efforts and hope that someone else here may come up with something better!
Take Heart and keep trying it will happen,if you really want it to!
Cheers

Mort
G'day mbarksalvo try this; Google Port of Melbourne,go to shipping agents you should get a list with phone numbers, pick the ones most likely to be going to UK and give them a call, you never know, if you still have your discharge book some one may need a replacement for a sick steward although I imagine there will be a standby list as long as your arm. Best of luck keep smiling Mort

Working passage
Thank you ship mates. Will take your suggestions on board and let my fingers do the walking as they say. Will lokk at all suggestions and hopefully find something. This has become a little more urgent now as I have just found out that mum has kidney cancer. so time to step up the efforts. Once again thank you.
