Default Tanker collision in the Gulf

News report says a Tanker has had a collision near the port of Khor Fakkan

    photo of the oil tanker.

There has been an update they now corrected the photographs.
It would seem some one has not been paying attention and the GPS conned theminto not looking out the bridge windows , someone is playing silly buggers with GPS systems. Time to man up and give the navigators back a sextant and do things the old fashioned way, any you navigators fancy doing a quick tutorial and travel the world. Pretty sure not many at sea now days could find there way around the worlds oceans, even the later years during my time a sextant was a rare thing.

This from gcaptain showing the full picture and naming both vessels.
Previously it has been reported that GPS spoofing had been taking place in the area, at one time showing a black listed tanker , not these involved in the collision above, sailing from Iran to be underway in the middle of a sugar beet field in the middle of Ukraine.

Sad isn't it that no one looks out of the bridge windows anymore, you could hardly miss seeing 100/200, 000 dwcc lump of metal when you are on a 100/200,000 dwcc and both have the advantage of HOE (Height of eye) above sea level giving them both an extended horizon, Yes we know these large vessels take a long time to react, but with HOE, long Horizon say 20 miles plus by eye and 40 plus by radar there was time to take avoiding action, probably too busy trying to correct the GPS rather than looking out of the window

Perhaps the crew are all keeping their heads down what with all hose rockets flying around.
I know it sounds wimpy but when we were caught alongside in Abadan back in the early 50s on a loaded tanker while the Yanks where trying to get the Shah back on the Peacock Throne it was easy to make a few mistakes, like me and my mate on the Mates orders jumping ashore to let go the ropes then jumping back aboard being chases by irate Arabs waving knives.

Not wishing to pick holes in the story but that photo looks more like a liquid gas tanker rather than an oil one.

its the same old sh-t John from the press, it will be the first ship pic they lay there hands on. The smallest is about 165,000 tons and the article I read reckons its part of Putins "dark fleet"

As I said they since updated the photos, and as Tony says the media just stick a photo up if its a ship, **** and elbow springs to mind.
