Explosion on Maresk box boat
A crankcase explosion on the Marsek Sana has injured 3 engineroom crew members.
She is or was adrift in the Atlantic about 350 miles after sailing from New York bound for Singapore.
The Sana was built in 2004 surprised she was still in the Marsek fleet being that age?
Bet it was some bang though feel for those hurt as likely badly burnt.
I was onboard a Bibby line LPG carrier Staffordshire when we had 2 crankcase explosions but thankfully it was on the generator flat so only casuality was my underpants as I had just entered the ECR after taking the log.Still it did cause a flash fire which was quickly brought under control.
The other Generator went bang a month later. These two Generators had only been put on in drydock 6 months before, they obviously did not like 380 HFO.
