    Default Ferries fiasco

So it's not just calmac having problems with delays to their new ferries, the Tasmanian government new ferry is laid up in Leith awaiting completion of it's new berth in Tasmania.

The fiasco regarding the Tasmanian ferry has been going on for some years.
Now there is concern the new one will not fit and there may be the need to purchase a second hand one.

I see on the internet that the second Tasmanian ferry broke her moorings in strong winds and drifted across the harbour in Turku where it was being built, no visible signs of any major damage.

It is an on going problem here in Aus, the people who plan these things have very little idea, or there is a huge communication C up. Not long ago the N.S.W Govt ordered new trains for Sydney only to find that they where to big for the platforms. I think the trouble here is that the people employed are nearly all from Private schools; and have a monopoly of the top jobs, even if they are brainless.

Australia is a young country Des and will have to go through the birthing pangs of such for another century or so before finding its own level in the world. I remember in 1957 discussing think it was passenger ships with a brother candidate for a first mates certificate, and he was telling me he was picked up by the federation to join the Green Goddess a well known passenger liner in London for a stand in job as 4 th. Mate . First he had to go into the London Office to see the Director , the first question he was asked was “ what does your father do for a living” , his immediate answer was “ my father is not here looking for a job, I am”. It’s not so bad today but the old boy network is still there but more disguised. Cheers JS

Having been employed, not working this was a uni, for 14 years I saw the type of student that now works or attempts top run the nation.
It was amazing how some even got through the exams, then they get a job as a politicians staffer and so in parliament.
Then we wonder why we have so many stuff ups!!!!!!

Political and public service incompetency at it's worst, like the Sydney harbor ferries plagued by problems some had to be reconfigured in order to comply with operating procedures.

Latest in Scotland, on TV news tonight, is that it seems that any goverment minister who wants to go to a rugby or football game just uses goverment transport, they get paid enough why can't they travel by public transport like everyone else.

Par for the course I am afraid, some years ago it was well known that the mayor of Gateshead used the mayoral car and driver to go for the weekly shopping run, among other abuses.
