    Default SS United States

Plans are afoot to sink her off Florida to create a large artificial reef.

Great all this stuff about artifical reefs, what about the pollution caused. One reason no one would take her on was she was a lot of Asbestos in her. I don't know was this ever removed ? What about the lead content in the remaining paint on the hull?
As usual all these so called artifical reefs is just a way of getting rid of a problem as cheaply as possible.

Dumping such ships is no worse than some other forms of contamination.

So does that make it okay then? we have used the sea as a dumping ground John for years, it is bad enough here in the UK pumping raw sewage into the sea.
I suppose when you consider all the UCL plates and cutlery dumped overboard by your good self said in jest John.
Did you ever watch that documentary Drain the Oceans, think it was a UK& Australian series of programmes well worth a watch. Yes I know it is computer generated footage but a lot is based on fact.
