    Default Bibby Stockholm

How about this for a positive action concerning prison over crowding. As the good people of Portland have got there wish that the illegal migrants are to be removed from the Bibby Stockholm !!! well there is a ready made fit for purpose prison(which illegal migrants called it) Waiting to accommodate the thugs currently destroying the country.
These Prison barges were good enough for the city of New York so fill her up. lol

Hi All, I could never understand why the Royal Navy scrapped their old aircraft carriers, absolutely ideal for offshore prisons.

Steve I think a similar idea to your post was on site years ago. I remarked at time if memory correct , and as there are other members on site employed by Seaforth Maritime at the same time shortly after 1978 they may be able to confirm or not. However the same company ,the word got around that they had proposed to the various oil companys in the North Sea if they were interested in putting in a bid for the Ark Royal ,their plan was after various alterations as norm to use her as an accomodation vessel and have permanent helicopters based on her to transfer people to the various oil fields by such. The alterations would have been mainly adjusting her flight deck to receive short winged passenger aircraft. This never came to fruition so must have been turned down ,or maybe a made up story , anyone know ? I believed it to be true. Cheers JS.

They have tried to use RN ships as prison ships in the past.

    HMS Maidstone.

Maidstone was also notable for the escape of seven Provisional IRA members on 17 January 1972. The men swam close to 300 yd (270 m) through icy water and evaded army and police and later held a press conference. [ 5][ 6] On 9 April 1972 all internees were moved to Long Kesh prison (HM Prison Maze).

I am sure there is a book about this around somewhere.
