Accordingly as how I read the news such life exports from Western Australia will shortly be annulled also other parts of Australia. As from W.A. This export is mainly to the Middle East , I only hope our brightest and best in the political world have done their sums correctly and brought the countries in the preferable delivering a life product into the debate before bringing the law of No Live animal carriage of foodstuffs. If they haven’t and are knocked back with their frozen cargoes then all I see is another huge addition to the debt of the country. Just maybe they are thinking if they allow a couple of thousand mid eastern citizens into the country to deliver the death sentence here rather than in their own customary country way, they may work around it. The only good thing about it is that meat for local consumption will be at bargain prizes. But the trillions in Australia’s National Debt will advance in leaps and bounds through gross incompetence. Love exports to me are abhorrent.

I spent a couple of months working for a butcher and part of my duties was going to the slaughter house once a week to collect the tripe for the shop. I hated going there and couldn’t wait to get out of the place. All those animals I am sure knew what fate awaited them and the fear they emitted was tangible. If I had the courage of my convictions I would have become a vegetarian , even a vegetarian is a carnivore if he/she has eggs with her salad as is eating the unborn flesh of chickens and ducks. Since the beginning of homo sapien time , the flesh of animals has been consumed to maintain life in the human form. Today if people were serious about not eating it , other methods of supplying protein to support human life forms could be found Im sure. Cruelty to animals is seen in our civilised world is seen as a terrible thing, but the world is not totally civilised and don’t think it ever will be. JS.

Back in the 80s I had to go to a bacon factory in N, Yorks. Pigs in one end bacon out the other. Most memorable bits were, live pigs squealing cos they could smell the blood, a guy with a big chainsaw on a counterbalance slicing the hanging carcase in two vertically, the machine which injected 10lbs of water and cure ingredients into each side of bacon, big deep pit where a guy with a big shovel and sacks of salt arranged the sides layer on layer, each with two shovels full of salt chuckedon them, he worked his way out by stacking the sides layer on layer, then filled with water, which apparently had to be topped up a few times for a week before the curewas finished, So when your bacon spits hot fat out of the pan, thats the water coming out, the stuff, bit like egg white, are the cure chemicals.
I have been dry curing my own bacon for some years now so I know what is in it.

I look at both sides of the question when people are up in arms re. Transport of animals by sea. The first one is are they looked after whilst on board, as they are usually accompanied by handlers I assume their welfare is properly covered. The other point to the argument if such exists is their worth which will depend on their condition at their destination. As they are destined to people who have different ideas on how they should be slaughtered are they going to accept them in an ordinary frozen condition ? I think what has been declared as the future for Australian cattle if hasn’t been gone into properly a lot of people are going to be out of pocket , who rely and have relied on the likes of the sheep trade all their working lives . I hope I am wrong and everyone will be pleased with the results , especially those who make noises about the evil of the trade. These are the ones who are being pacified not the sheep who they at the very least will be shortening their lives to make these people feel comfortable. JS

My dad weas involved with a Pig farm back in the late 50\s early 60's.
Often went up to Walls factory in north London on Sunday morning with the next lot for pork chops.
Looking back not such a good deed we did.
Back in about 64 I went to the slaughter house in Brisbane, we were loading beef.
What I saw when the bolt hit the head was not pretty, the cattle knew what was coming, you could see it in their eyes.
Yes John, maybe the vegans have a point!!!

Spotted an article about a live stock carrier refused entry into the Irish port of Greenore last week.
At first I thought it was because the vessel was 45 years old. No not that.
the reason was!!!

The Sarah M, a 45-year-old livestock carrier, has been denied entrance into Ireland, leading to controversy about its classification under the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
The EU has sancitions against Russia, bugger all to do with animal welfare.
The shipment of Livestock has had a 14% increase in cow exports last year, totalling more than $200 million, cannot see shipping livestock coming to an end anytime soon.

The Sarah M is supposed to be drifting somwhere off the Spanish coast looking for a cargo.

I worked at two freezing works in NZ as a carpenter , in the heyday of frozen meat for the UK, I think the way they transport the sheep is appalling, only a couple of years ago one ship threw over 1,500 sheep into the sea, whether they were dead or just sick I don't know, Australia loses not only the final wool clip but the pelt as well unless the farmers count that into the price. There would be thousands of jobs in new meat works, maybe Albanese always talking about Aus making its own stuff could see his way clear to build some new freezing works , to hell with the Middle East, start selling again in Britain and Europe.

PS. According to the news 70,000 Kiwis have com over to Aus since Jan, must be a few freezing workers among them.

Look what happened off the WA coast, ship full of live stock with no where to go for ssome time.
never did hear the outcome of that one.
But you are right, many die at sea and over the wall with them.
