When King George v1 died in 1952, the BBC paused many of their programs and played non stop solemn music for several days, the king was popular as he and his wife
queen Elizabeth had been there for the people throughout the war, visiting bombed places and residents. The UK's population was very different Than it is now, at the cinema
the national anthem was played whe the last film had finished, everyone was expected to stand untl the end, although many of us made for the exit to beat the crowd to he bus stop.
In the media today I saw that a council had banned a taxi driver from having the Union Jack on display in his cab. This country is being stolen from us, and nothing is being done
done tu prevent it getting worse, I some times wonder what the UK would be like today if the two world wars had not happened, the population would be vastly different than it s now,
Enoch Powel knew what he was talking about. heers John Collier.

Not only that but in those days you got 2 films for the price of one.
Last time I was at the cinema was in Kilmarnock with my brother and our wives.
He says I will get the tickets you get the Cokes & Pop Corn. £26.00 I thought he was taking the piss.
My brother is an accountant. I asked him what the tickets cost if 4 cokes and pop corn was £26.00. Oh I just use my ohone app we get in for nothing on a Wednesday. As I said he is an accountant
Most taxi drivers round here are Asians as are a lot of the bus drivers.

It has been estimated that between 1815 and 1914, 22.6 million people left the shores of Britain to settle somewhere abroad.

Mo, best I can find is 10 million emmigrated between 1815 to 1914 of that number it would appear that 7.5 million of them were from Ireland. Of course a lot of them came to England but the majority went to the USA or Canada especially during the potato famine , they left either by choice or were transported to the likes of Australia , South Africa, New Zealand and other British colonies.

Seems to me if it was that bad here why are they risking life and limb to get her, a berth on the Bibby Stockholm ust be luxury for most. I think their main cause of complaint is they are not used to central heating or hot and cold running water. Those we see moaning on TV should be removed if they so wish and a free flight out to Rwanda.

On the subject of the BBC, they're asking why we're having so many storms?
It's because we never called them storms before, it was just lots of bad weather, but now they seem to name each bad weather event. Every time it rains, or the wind blows, they call it a storm.
We've all seen it before during our lives, why can't they just see it as normal bad weather? It's all kind of dramatic, it wont be long before nice weather gets a name.

To use the correct terminology which the likes of the media very rarely know , a storm is defined as winds of force 10 and above on the Beaufort Scale. JS
    Force 9 strong gale
Force 10 Storm winds 48-55 knots
Force 11 Violent Storm 56-63 knots
    Force 12 Hurricane 64 + knots.

Down here in Cooma our summer has been one big storm, so much so that the ducks are complaining about the rain.
