Just stop Oil
Yet another Just Stop Oil protest in London as people trying to get to work and school this morning.
One of the protesters adressed the rally.
Do you think someone needs to tell her about the birds & the Bees
She added: “I am very angry.”
Addressing the public, Just Stop Oil activist Sophie, 30, said the protest is “the scariest thing” she has done.
“I don’t want to be here,” she said.
“This is the scariest thing I’ve ever done but I am terrified. I’m just an ordinary person.”
She said she marched because she wants to have children.
She said: “But how can I bring a child into this world when the Government are not safeguarding our future?
I wonder does she know that buying a gallon of unleaded petrol for the car she likely travelled in is not the reason she cannot have children. At the age of 30 and coming out with that rubbish, perhaps it is just as well she has no kids yet!!!

Re: Just stop Oil
We have one here in Oz today.
Wants the sale of all ICE to end by 2025 to encourage the take up of EV.
Fine but one small problem, the rate of manufacture of such.
So far the total manufactured is in the order of about 32% of all vehicles on this planet.
There are no EV in show rooms, why, because they cannot get any!!
Look at the countries reliant on fossil fuels around the world, UK still on about 85% UAE on 100%
Blatant brain washing of the younger generation 0and those who are unable to think rationally is the problem.
But if the push is so great for EV then why are three new sevos being built within 3 klm of where I live?
None I might add with charging points

Re: Just stop Oil
German are questioning the EU and other bodies about continuing the production of cars with Internal combustion engines beyond 2035.
Seeing as the Volks Wagon Group are the worlds largest Auto manufacturer with a revenue of $251 billion for 2021. I think they will have a big say about continueing with cars using the Internal Combustion Engine well beyond 2035

Re: Just stop Oil
EV's are fine for silver tail greenies who live in houses and can put solar on roof for charging, but renters and retirees who live in apartments do not have that luxury. I live in an apartment built only 4 years ago, but to install charging points requires replacement of not only the transformer which costs over $10k but also to rewire, so very large cost to owners above normal body corporate dues. Out of reach of most retired owners,

Re: Just stop Oil
Look at many places in UK where they open the front door right onto the sidewalk, where can you put charging points there?
Similar here in Oz, slow take up as there are few coming into the country.
But distance here and remote areas are the main problem.
A lot with big vehicles such as the RAM, Land Cruiser and a few others can go bush.
Put two or three cans of diesel in the trunk and they can go for days.
There are plenty of sevos in the towns but no chargers.

Re: Just stop Oil
John , not all of us live in Coronation street, or live in High rise tower blocks. Believe it or not most homes have the electric light and hot water with indoor toilets and bathrooms.
Not many houses in the UK have tin roofs like a lot of Australian properties seem to have.

Re: Just stop Oil
The 'Tin;' roof you admire is actually Colorbond, a very fine steel in use.
My Neice lives in London, property is on a very large road, so large parking is allowed down the center.
So how will EV get a charging station there?
There are many such roads around North London, and of course the high rise blocks of apartments.
And believe it or not we have similar situations here in Melbourne.
But on another note regarding EV.
Elon
Musk, the CEO of Tesla stated the other day that the stories of climate change and global warming are so overstated.
But Tesla are making a fortune from this fear mongering.

Re: Just stop Oil
I would think the roofs of new buildings for houses is about 50% steel or the same for tiles. Both have different advantages but price is not particularly one of them. My last house I had built I stipulated a tiled roof with steel roofing beams and not wood. The builder dropped a Clanger and he made the pitch of the roof more for a steel roof. However I caught him in time and told him it was a tile roof going on . Luckily the pitch of the roof just came in under the building regulations so the tiled roof went on. There was no difference in the price. If he had of had to Put a steeper pitch on the roof he would of had to pay the difference . The steel as against wood rafters was my answer to any red ants who decided to take up residency with me. However anyone in a hot climate building with the same idea of steel beams should bear in mid That in exceptionally hot weather the steel expands and contracts and a time the crack it gives out sometimes causes one to jump in alarm. So best to get advice on expansion in the steel beams. Would certainly scare the pants off any Red Ants who had a fetish for steel and not wood. JS

Re: Just stop Oil
Same as plastic guttering John, sun comes out, and creak creak creak, cloud cover comes in and all the creaking starts again , sometimes dozens of times a day. No matter what you build with, everything has to move.
