The Seahorse Standard was used for several years from 1998 as a submarine rescue trials vessel. Once per year the LR5 submarine rescue system, of which I was part of the operation and maintenance team, was installed on-board for ten days of inshore and off-shore trials from Garden Island, the submarine base at Rockingham WA.
The system installed on board consisted of the launch and recovery system for the LR5 submersible which was capable of rescuing 17 sub-mariners from a disabled submarine on each trip down to it. If the submarine was under pressure then rescuees could be transported to the surface at this pressure and then transferred into an on-board decompression chamber.
Also on-board was a Scorpio ROV which was used for pre-rescue survey of the dis-sub and was also capable of posting emergency supplies into the stricken submarine.

Hi Michael , dont know Neil Harris do you ? He WAS /IS an instructor at Garden Island . Did his 22 years in RN then joined RAN as an instructor. Lives now in Singleton and was a neighbour If you met him once you would remember him. Cheers JS

Why all the fuss about these new style subs for Oz?
Most countries sue them and for us to continue with Diesel ones at a time when the concept is to move away from such I find odd.
Nuclear power is the main source now in so many countries, we sell the yellow cake to other countries to run them, take the waate and burry it in the outback but will not have nuclear power ourselves!!
Bit stupid to say the least,
