Re: Another school shooting
Rodders, thank you for taking the time to explain all that.
But for all of that I do not see any time soon much change taking place no matter rhetoric and shouting there is.
Al we can do is pray that at some time the gov and others may see sense.
But don't hold your breath on that one.

No doubt we will return to this topic and I predict it will be soon unless Putin presses his button then all our troubles will be over.

Re: Another school shooting
Sleepy Joe has said he wants the age to buy a gun raised from 18 to 21.
Some republicans along with the gun lobby have said no way.
It will be many long years I fear before any substantial changes are made to gun laws in USA.

Re: Another school shooting
There are approximately 5 million members belonging to the NRA in the US. So 5 million people are holding a nation with a population of over 257 million people who have the right to vote ??? Better get voting folks and soon, but it may be to late already.
American politicians need to take a look at how the UK handled gun crime after Dunblaine and other mass shootings. Yes Trump mentioned London and knife crime which is also disgustingly high in the UK. But anyone on here ever recall some basket case killing with a knife ,10, 20, 30 people in one moment of madness or just plain evilness.
As we are all no doubt getting on in years I am sure most would not exchange the gun laws we have here for those of the USA.
I have just finished reading John Bercow's book Unspeakable (yawn) but he was talking about the opposition encountered when trying to setup a nursery in the House of Commons. Most of that opposition came from Conservative MP's. Maybe they were concerned that the room used for the Pistol shooting Range would have been considered as suitable.

Re: Another school shooting
I see the house has passed a motion that will only allow those over 21 to buy assault style weapons.
So no doubt the black market in such will now do very well.

Re: Another school shooting
Johnno.
The law that was passed by the Democrats in the US House of Representatives is because the Democrat party has a majority and five Republicans voted with them. Sadly, the bill they passed will die in the Senate. The Senate is split between the Republicans and the Democrats. The Vice-President can vote in the event of a tie. She is a Democrat, however there are two Democratic Senators who will not vote for changes in the gun laws, so the Republicans win, and gun changes fail on a national level.
The Democrats knew this before they put the gun proposed law to vote in the house. Part was for their political advantage and part was to force the Republicans to identify themselves as being opposed. Politics on both sides.
Some states have passed gun restrictive laws. New York for one. 74% of crimes involving a firearm which came from other states where it was legal to purchase them and then brought back to New York. Of course, this importing of banned firearms or underage ownership is illegal, but these are criminals and become criminals by this act. This is why we need laws enacted by the Federal Government. Not to impede hunting, but sensible gun control.
It won't happen in my lifetime. Rodney
