Re: Newbury races today 10 June
Funny how Races are sometimes connected to certain things .
Like one Years back when i dreamt about a Winner and backed it as well. Horse called Lightening Flash, had dreamt about this terrific Flash of Lightening the Night before! It came in at that sort of odds as well.
Another i recall is when my dear late Dad walked passed Two Nuns in England and he went in the Betting Shop and saw a Horse called Twin Habits ! Backed at some 50/1 and it romped home !
Yes these things do happen!

Re: Newbury races today 10 June
Our son was born in January 1980, he is called Ben. I used to have the odd flutter on the horses at that time. A couple of months later, Grand national day and my wife, who has never placed a bet in her life, looks in the pullout in the paper and sees a horse called Ben Nevis. Put a bet on that one for me she says, I look at the form and say that’s got no chance and didn’t put a bet on him.
Of course he won in a race in which there were only 4 finishers, a lot of horses fell, refused or were pulled up and he was so far behind he managed to avoid the chaos and went on to win.
Every grand national since I am reminded of the year she picked the winner and I didn’t back it for her.
Regards Michael

Re: Newbury races today 10 June
Im not a gambler Michael, but my wife likes to bet on the Melbourne Cup every year when Australia stops for a moment in time and indulges in festivities. I have to go into the betting shop and put a 1 dollar each way on about 5 different horses , which she always forgets to pay me , if she wins she is in raptures with her 5 dollar winnings , forgetting it cost me $10 to get her 5. Went to the races once in Singapore with the chief steward. Big racecourse only thing lacking was the horses and jockeys. Everything else as normal. Put your bets on and watch a TV screen of the race in Malaysia. Put me off for a days outing . JS

Re: Newbury races today 10 June
Vintage Crop came here to Oz for the Melbourne cup a few years back.
Irish trained by O'Brien so we had to put a few dollars on it, came in at a good price.
Only bet ever on the cup.
Last bet in UK was in Grand National a couple of years ago on a horse called Red Rum.
Think he won more than once.

Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Missed putting a few bob on Foinavon (1958–1971)
was an Irish racehorse. He won the Grand National
in 1967 at odds of 100/1.

Re: Newbury races today 10 June
I have always had a little flutter. Took my kids when they were around 9 and 11 to the Auckland races, me being the big gambler had 5bob on a quinela, gave the race book to the kids told them to pick a horse each, laughed at their picks, only to watch them come in first and second, the quinela paying 150 quid. But I did back the winners of the Melbourne Cup ten years running, only had $5 each way.
Best one I missed was Eggandbacon and Breakfast as a quinela. I haven't had a bet now since the fires, and of course now the covid.
