#85. We are in the same pickle here in the States ! Think hardly have a Merchant Marine anymore ! If we didn’t have the almost moth balled Ready Reserve Fleet there wouldn’t be any US flagged ships and we with a few thousand miles of seaboard. I sailed on two different APL container ships that were on their last legs — pulled out of overseas layup fleet to haul containers and flat racks of non combat equipment and supplies for Afghanistan via Pakistan. Really embarrassed to be on a ship with rusted funnel panels fluttering in the breeze and badly rusted catwalks and hand rails throughout the foredeck. I don’t know how they got the Union Longshoremen to work them in the US. Paid someone off ! Keith Adams.
