#20 Is it true that these wind turbines cant operate in high winds.

I read in a technical magazine sometime ago that they have to be locked if winds speeds approach Force 5 or 6 depending upon location, but things may have evolved since then. On the normal propeller the speed at the tips at normal operating speed is approx 280/300 mph, you can imagine the forces on the bearings if that is increased by mother nature

Here in Oz we have had bits of the blades breaking off in heavy winds.
Many are on farm land and the gov has advised farmers to wear hard hats when outside!!!!!!!!

But despite all the action of gov with some massive solar farms and wind ones as well as roof top solar the best we can manage is about 15% of our energy needs.

John not sure were you get your figures from 15%? that according to Aus gov website 35% is by renewables.

James, our gov is so intense on convincing all that renewables are the only way they use figures to suit.
When you see figures from the electric commission, the guys who transport and sell you get the true figure.

The maintenance base for the Dogger bank find farm is in shields but this just popped up on the internet regarding the turbines.

James ,just for you.
I have two solar systems on my roof, one a 2.5 KW the other 5 KW.

The feral gov along with state have been encouraging residents to put solar on by offering subsidies.
The 2.5KW was free care of the gov in 2010 as we qualified for one.
The other was added about 5 years ago at a cost to me of $950.

I was being paid 60cent per KW hour for all I put back into the system.

Currently I have a credit of $1925.00 on my account.
I have used some of my previous credits to pay the gas account which is with the same company.

But as of November 1 all subsidies come to an end.
I will now be paid only6 cents per KW hour for what I put back into grid.

The reason, given by gov and power suppliers, the grid cannot cope with the amount of solar from roof tops going into the grid.

Hence the difference between what the gov say renewables are creating and the actual being used.

Now a report commissioned by the gov shows the true cost of renewables if the nation is to reach a goal of net zero by 2050.
The amount is eye watering and made worse by the size of the battery field that will be required.
It will cover more than the Australian Capital Territory in size.

As to net zero emissions, not possible as long as long as manufacturing continues.
