The Shields Newspapers.
For those who peruse the Shields tabloids looking for references to other things of importance. Would appreciate it if they come across any articles written by a character called the Happy Wanderer. His real name was Alan Medd and he was 3rd. Mate with me as mate in 1964 . He was a man in his 60s then and wore a chest full of ribbons ,like the old Grandad in “ Only fools and Horses “. The 2 mate was also well into his sixties and was keen to tell everyone how he took the British RN to Australia during the war. There I was stuck between these two tailors dummies a young 27 year old mate they thought they could have a go at. The second mate I traced his history out and found he had served most of the war years stationed in Sydney NSW in the Quarter masters stores and informed him of his lineage. The third mate I told him if my name ever appeared in any of his articles I would sue the pants off him. The hectoring ceased suddenly. Incidentally one of the Company’s masters got the sack from the poisoned pen of this same 3 mate, he later emigrated to Australia and would have liked to have heard the story from him. However it would be nice to know when our would be writer started his career in the gossip columns. Cheers JS

That’s him Marian a younger looking version to what I remember what’s the date on those journals . He was an uncertificated 3 mate and always was , a wolf in sheep’s clothing , they must have barred him from the focsle . A real talker and not a doer he always got someone else to do that bit. Cheers JS
