Re: New Scottish Ferries
One thing I could never understand Vic was when initially there was an argument between Fergusons and Calmac as to what had changed to the spec. Why did an auditor be appointed to check (a) what was full extent and cope of initial enquiry, (b) what did Ferguson quote for. (c) was there any differences between quote and enquiry. (d) was any changes agreed by both parties and cost adjusted accordingly. Would have saved all the finger pointing and who said what and no come backs. After all ships had been built on the Clyde for centuries a shipbuilders and owners had been negotiating accordingly. Jim Pottinger

Re: New Scottish Ferries
James, that would have been the sensible thing to do, but for some reason CMAL would not entertain discussions bethe and the yards.

Re: New Scottish Ferries
Is this a case of the Scottish government forced CALMAC to have these ferries built in a yard that CALMAC did not want to use, no build here no government subsidies?

Re: New Scottish Ferries
The order of hierarchy is as follows:-
Scottish givernment
Scottish Transport - over all responsibility for all Transport
Cmac - owner of ships and jetties ( where applicable).
Calmac - leases and operates the ships.
All will have a hand in new Ferries order.

Why can we build state of the art warships just a few miles up river on time & reasonably on budget The lower Clyde yards were responsible for building the only Supertankers ever built in Scotland and the construction of submarines for foe=reign bodies so there s no lack of skill just mismanagement The only thing Nippy Sweeties has ever done for Scotland is make the union with England stronger
