Yes have had some very heavy rain this year and at the end of 2023.
Not unusual but with so many properties built on what are natural flood plains it does poase a problem for some

Now of course you will ask why did they build on flood plans.
After WW2 the country was trying to grow, ten pound poms, and all that.
Local councils wrote up building permits without consideration.
No houses had been built there before so they saw no problems.

Rules over the last few years have changed and in NSW the gov is prepared to buy back land t prevent any more problems.

Bit like those who build in bush, lovely area when it is fine, but then comes the fire and they are in strife.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

as a non brit - but brit somewhere in the family tree - i watched the coronation spectacle of bonny king charles which was at windsor - and always having been a royal family follower - i was surprised to find myself questioning the big deal - and have reached the conclusion - i dont care anymore - i am - old - content and happily retired - so good luck to the king - but i am so not a fan anymore ! but credit to the folk who put the whole thing together - as once again the brits know how to put on a good show

I would rather have a King Charles, at least he will bend to the will of the people and the elected government. If he decides not to comply that will be the end of the monarchy.
Russia has a Dictator as does China and many other nations.
But sorry and do not mean to offend the USA. If they do not get a grip on their politics ASAP they also will have a Dictator. The clown Trump has already tried to bring down democracy. Any South American or Asian country he would have been dancing a jig on the end of a rope.

#132.. Bryan for those countries still fortunate enough to have a Royal Family , to most people who bear any kind of loyalty to their History and ways, it is the same as the Flag and a rallying point for national minded people. The armed forces although the Monarch does not have the power to use in their professional duties, all I am sure wear all their insignia and Royal apparel with pride. Without the Royal Family the uk would be a much poorer place than it already is. It’s history of the past is all there to see, good or bad as the case may be. My vote would be to , don’t touch , they are the people of the uk , and not politicians who come and go all the time. The Royal family are permanent the same as the country God willing. JS

The Mon achy in the UK in recent years is little more than a figurehead, they may cause a bit op media frenzy at times but are relatively harmless whereas
a president can cause real trouble, you only have to look at the presidents around the wold to see how they abuse their powers. Like any family the royals
are far from perfect, but they are not monsters like so many so called presidents who are really dictators who have the power of life and death. cheers John Collier.

Had Bonnie Prince Charlie not turned back to Scotland from Derby, I wonder if the House of Stewart or Stuart would have ruled differently.
Those in power in London at that time were very worried indeed.

Looking around the globe one sees that countries with a monarchy do tend to be stable compared with many presidential ones.
Yes in UK it is now just a bit above a novelty for some but it create stability and more importantly democracy which so many do not have.

Not according to my geneology tree. But if they have made a mistake it wouldn’t bother me
In the slightest why should it. ? I can or my son has gone way back before the Napoleonic wars to the 14/15 century’s when there were Sabourns as Keelboatmen on the River Tyne.
Am almost sure that the monkey arrested as a spy at west hartlepool was no relation.
