It was certainly a Brothel with a difference, search for weapons at the entrance, open air bars where you could sit and have a beer observe the goings on and decide whether to indulge or just have as stroll around.
I have good and bad memories of this 'Happy Valley'. Was J.O.S. on the STS William Wheelwright, took fresh water (Delaware river water) to their salination plant and loaded crude out to New Jersey. Visited the place and spent some hours with a nice girl before going back to her enormous and soft bed. Engaged a taxi back to the ship, agreed the fare and we set off, on the way back the driver announced the fare would be lot more; when I refused he drove straight to the police station where I was the given the option of a jail cell or pay the taxi. Well I paid up and had to walk back to the ship.

Oddly enough, thinking of Curacao, I'm sure I saw my first colour tv there, early to mid 60s. In Willemstad most likely. Odd thing to do in such a place, watching telly.
Don’t imagine many sailors dock there for cargo .
