Merchant Navy Day
Well Lads and Lasses, its that time of Year again where we all i hope remember this Special Day of ours in History.
For all those that gave the Ultimate Sacrifice (Their Lives) to try and make this World a better place , so sad had they known what the World is Today.
But we of course still Commend them one and ALL, for what they did.
So Today being the 3rd September here already in Aussie, let us here for now take this time and Stand and give one Minutes Silence in their Rememberance!

Lest we Forget"

Re: Merchant Navy Day
Hi Vernon.
I have in my room a small Red Duster which [Flies every day} With a Father in the first war as a Merchant seaman and a brother in the second, unlike the so many who died, both survived, I will never forget all those who give their lives.

Re: Merchant Navy Day
It is indeed Vernon, also the day WW2 began in 1939.
Ironic in a way that the two are on the same day, but worthy of those merchant seamen who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Re: Merchant Navy Day
From Phillip Hughes Thank You
In the towns of Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs, Birchington and Reculver the Red Ensigns were once again flying for OUR DAY plus the Margate Mayor arranged a M.N. Day event at the Margate Sea Cadets unit. I was invited to be interviewed by BBC Radio Kent on September 3rd; to discuss the M.N. and talk about M.N. Day. The local newspapers published my letter of the day to remind the public of the debt they owe to our seafarers. My members and supporters also travelled by coach for the M.N. Day service / parade at our Memorial at Tower Hill. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Re: Merchant Navy Day
I know that bit of the English coast well, beautiful part of the county.
Great to see the memory is being upheld, long may it continue thus.

Re: Merchant Navy Day
A bit late in the year but cleaning out old paperwork a couple of years later than I should came across the following which may be of interest to Australian seafarers. It is the charter of freedom of entry to the Town of Richeno in the sovereign state of Tasmania issued by HM Queen Elizabeth 11 , Queen of Australia. And is freedom of Entry to the Australian MN. I received this with the second clasp to the Australian Merchant Navy Service Cross on the 3 Sept.2004. Just in time for the unveiling of a magnificent new monument . Unfortuanetley I couldn’t make the ceremony. There are 6 pages appertaining to this including the freedom of entry. I often wonder how many attend these services today , as the people of the town provided most of the money. JS.
